SANITIZING ATTICS AFTER ANIMAL INFESTATION(S)

Most wild animals and rodents go up.  The insulation gives rodents a place to burrow and nest, as well as shelter away from potential predators.  Attics are also a Raccoons favorite place to hide both for warmth and to give birth and raise young.  After the process of eviction, it is important to sanitize the attic to help kill potential pathogens left by these critters.  Below is a list of pathogens/parasites and potential ectoparasites that your uninvited and unwelcomed guests could, and often do leave behind.

RACCOONS

  • Raccoon Round Worm (Parasite that lives in the “belly of the beast”)
  • Ticks & Fleas
  • Urine & feces Piles (also knows as a Raccoon latrine)
  • Insulation damage & movement
  • Smells that could attract both animals and insects.
  • Carcasses that can attract insects (maggots, carpet beetles and other flying insects)

RODENTS

  • Hantavirus (found in saliva, urine and droppings and therefore transmitted to nesting materials)
  • Ticks & Fleas
  • Carcasses that could attract other animals, rodents and insects
  • Insulation damage and soiling

BATS/BIRDS

  • Guano (droppings) which when piled up can develop a fungus called Histoplasma leading to respiratory virus Histoplasmosis
  • Bat Bug (cousin to the bed bug) that can & will host on humans if bats are no longer present
  • Insulation damage and soiling
  • Carcasses under and throughout insulation that could attract insects and rodents.
  • Ticks Fleas and Bird Mites

Blue Tick Pest & Wildlife Control Specialists use both virucide as well as insecticide (labeled for in home use) to help rid your home of these potential “after affects” of having critters in and around the home.  Although getting the critters out and keeping them out is the first step, you do not want to let the possibility of their past tenure, keep the headache going.

WILL BLEACH WORK TO KILL PATHOGENS LEFT BY ANIMALS IN YOUR HOUSE?

Yes, bleach will work.  However, Bleach is a very strong chemical and applying the correct amount to the current areas is a learned technique.  Bleach also has a very strong odor and could possibly put you or your family at risk if not mixed and ventilated appropriately.  Blue Tick Pest Control uses Specialized equipment by trained professionals to not only fog your attic space (in order to reach every open surface) but also combines that with an insecticide spray to help kill residual ticks fleas and mites that could potentially grow by the thousands within a week of untreated time.
